Nelson's Column and National Gallery
Trafalgar Square is one of the most scenic spots in London and is surrounded by many of the city’s important attractions. The square was built in the 1830s to commemorate the death of Admiral Lord Nelson in the Battle of Trafalgar – a battle that he won. The Corinthian column is the focal point of the square, and stands 170 feet tall. It was built in 1842 and is crowned at the top by a statue of the Admiral.
