Overview
While it’s often full of Fleet Street journalists, and sometimes collects tourists from nearby Dr. Johnson’s House, “the Cheese” is noteworthy because it’s relatively unchanged since days Charles Dickens drank here. Samuel Clemens drank here too. It is particularly nice on a cold, dank, rainy English evening as the fireplaces keep you cozy and the small rooms don’t seem as loud as many pubs. It can get downright romantic on Sunday when crowds thin out and it’s a great spot for pub grub, too.
