  Overview

Daily Telegraph readers awarded the Savoy the “best British Hotel” award in 1999 and 2000. With its wonderful site between the Strand and the Thames just minutes from Covent Garden and the Theater District, it’s certainly special - and carnivores don’t do better than Simpson’s-in-the-Strand for beef and such. There’s even the Savoy Theater built by Richard d’Oyly Carte for Gilbert and Sullivan Operas that can come in combination with the hotels many restaurants.

However, Afternoon tea in the Thames Foyer runs Monday through Saturday and on Sunday there’s the famous Sunday Afternoon Tea Dance with waltzes and tangos. Treats run to smoked salmon and tomato, cucumber and other finger sandwiches, a tower or French pastries and tea cakes, home baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserves and either tea or coffee.

Tips: The tea dance is unforgettable and a good excuse for that new dress or suit.

£26.50 for the Sunday Tea Dance.
