  Overview

Jazz in the crypt of the 300-year-old St. Giles Church redefines 'something different' in South London where tourists rarely appear. It's the Friday night spot for those who want to escape the tourists in Soho or Knightsbridge. This is the kind of place for jazz buffs who appreciate a mix of solid and sometimes non-commercial jazz with all sorts of interesting English and European jazz groups and killer acoustics.

Getting there is a bit tricky, but it's worth the bus ride, and getting home may require a cab after the underground closes for those who don't want to take the night buses back to Victoria Station, one of London's main bus exchanges.

It's a free membership deal with volunteer workers that will remind some of the old-time folk music clubs with a casual, friendly ambiance, lots of regulars and surprisingly good food and drink at modest prices.
Cover charges range from £3 to £5 with dinner around £6 and sensationally low beer and bar prices.

Directions:  Take the Northern Line to the Oval, and catch a 'bus along to Camberwell Green. Go towards the Peckham direction and look for the floodlit church with the tall spire 200 yards on the right. It's about two miles from the nearest underground. There's also a night bus back to Victoria Station Bus Depot.

Hours: Opens 20:00, first set 21:3O that finishes about 23:30 in time to catch the last underground.
