Tips
This could be the best transport museum in the world - and
it's an absolute killer for kids. It’s very conveniently located in the old Flower Market building in Covent Garden just down the block from the Theatre Museum. The London Transport Museum contains the vehicles, double-deck buses, old trams and underground cars that define London.
You don't just look here. You pile on and off an amazing assortment of track and tire vehicles. You grip wheels, hold controls and take stairs to upper decks. Exhibits explain the growth of London transport and the design innovations that continue today with the new underground route to the Millennium Dome. Museums like this show how much of
today's technology came from British and Scots, and how transportation technology impacts lifestyles.
The bonus here is the wonderful Art Deco posters on the walls, and their reproductions in the nifty museum shop that demonstrate eye-catching design
didn't start with Madonna. Do check the schedules for special events, the guided tours and, in particular, the special programs for challenged adults and visitors that include ramps and lifts for chairs, signing, touch tours and more. |
