  Overview

The Old Vic is considered one the world’s most famous theaters, where the world’s greatest actors have taken the stage. First opened as the Regency in 1818, it is the only theatre in London from that time that is still in business. Consider Richard Burton and Sir Laurence Olivier’s Richards, Peter O’Toole’s Hamlet and Maggie Smith’s incredible Hedda Gabler. A typical current theater season runs to Julius Caesar, The Three Musketeers, a Lulu reprise and Le Costume. The Old Vic also has big and inexpensive bars to help you warm up for the shows, they’re among the best in the theater district. Nearest underground: Waterloo Underground Station
